Now, let's dive into the books that are going to win those tiny hearts and spark their imagination this holiday.

1. How Many Sleeps Till Christmas: This heartwarming kid's book is written Mark Sperring and Sebastien Braun. It is the story of Little Pip and Daddy bear. Little pip is very excited and eager to celebrate Christmas and asks his father every morning whether it is the Christmas Day. Daddy bear on the other hand, very patiently tries to explain the little one how many sleeps are still left for Christmas. As the days pass, the father-son duo countdown together, preparing for the festival by setting up the tree, making greeting cards and engaging in many more fun festive activities. This book not only teaches patience, but also emphasizes the importance of family traditions and togetherness during the holiday season.

2. The Bad Kitty Searching For Santa: In this book written by Nick Bruel, Bad Kitty takes matter into her paws and writes a letter to Santa. She not only writes the letter, but also decides to hand deliver it to him. But her journey to meet Santa doesn't go as expected and she encounters many hurdles and comical mishaps. Will Bad Kitty deliver the letter to Santa? This book is full of humour and also delivers a touching message about giving and the joy of festive season, making it a perfect addition to the Christmas story collection.

3. The Lost Christmas: Grandpa wants to decorate the Christmas tree but he couldn't find any of the ornaments. His grandkids help him find the missing items and set up the Christmas tree. This seek and find book authored by B.B.Cronin offers plenty of fun to readers in tracing out the missing ornaments. Beyond the fun of tracking down, the story conveys the true meaning of family and Christmas spirit.

4. Llama Llama Secret Santa Surprise: Llama Llama and his friends play Secret Santa at school and is excited to exchange gifts with his friends. But he quickly discovers that choosing the right gift could be a challenge. Anna Dewdney through her thoughtful storytelling has beautifully captured the joy of giving. The story encourages the young minds to appreciate the spirit of kindness and generosity. You can also watch this delightful story on Netflix.

5. Merry Christmas, Gus: This heartwarming book written by Chris Chatterton is my personal favourite. This is the story of Gus, who doesn't like Christmas. He see the carols, decoration and everything about Christmas as just unwanted noise and chaos. But this behaviour leaves his friend, a sweet, enthusiastic puppy disheartened. As the story unfolds, Gus realizes that the true essence of Christmas lies in spreading joy and making our loved ones happy. By the end, Gus embraces the holiday spirit and celebrates Christmas with his friend. This book is a wonderful reminder of the importance of love, friendship and simple joy of togetherness.

Wish you and your family a Merry Christmas. May your holiday season be filled with stories that bring warmth to your heart and happiness to your home!!

Review: Anex Monkey Smart Watch

Hello Readers,  Welcome back. While browsing through a weekly flyer by Canadian Tire, my eyes got hold of a smart watch, primarily for its name - Monkey Smart Watch. It's original price was $89.99. On account of Father's Day, the price was slashed 70% and offered for just $24.99 (from June 9th to June 16th).  As it was listed on Canadian Tire website, I thought the product should be genuine and googled to know more about the product. But there weren't sufficient reviews online. So I decided to try it myself and booked it online. This smart watch was launched in the last quarter of 2021 as Anex Monkey Smart Watch. Last year, it had been sold for just $19.99 as part of Black Friday deal. Even after 5 days of waiting, Canadian Tire didn't process my order. On the other hand, the stock was vanishing real quick and only 80 watches were available in our near by store. When checked with their customer service executive, I was told to cancel my online order or wait until they p...

An Impromptu Nature Walk: Healing Hearts and Growing Minds

It's summer break and like many parents, I find myself navigating the ups and downs of having my child at home - full time. Recently, one morning stood out in particular - a moment that turned into an unexpected adventure. My son woke up feeling sad. When asked him he said he is unhappy as his friends don't call him a certain way. That feeling carried so much weight in his little heart and it was tough seeing him like that. I reminded him that we cannot control how others treat us or what they say about us. Instead we can focus on what brings us joy like "May be take a walk in the nature, or read a book, or ride your bike" I offered. To my surprise he immediately responded "Let's go for a walk in the nature" and so we did. We stepped out just with a bottle of water and my mobile phone. Initially I thought we would get some fresh air for few minutes to lighten his mood and head back home. But what we started on as an impromptu walk ended up with a wonderf...

Gearing up for First day of School

The day you first held your little one, the first time he smiled at you, those first steps, first tears, first words, first bike ride... You would have experienced countless firsts with your child so far. Before you knew it, your kid is just few days away from a very important milestone - his first day of school.  If your kid is starting kindergarten this academic year, I totally feel you. I was in the same state of mind, exactly an year ago. After tending to my son for more than 3 years, that too as a stay at home mom, he is very attached to me. I was with him literally 24 x 7, except for those very few minutes I sneak into the washroom. The thought of how he would survive those 7 hours of school without me, haunted me for days. Next his preparedness to face the whole new world (without us) was dreadful. I had infinite questions/ doubts in my head. It is quite natural if you have an endless loop going on in your head. In this post, I sum up my experience of preparing my child and ...

Fictional Mothers, Real Emotions: Two Wonderful Books On Motherhood

I usually don't choose the books I read - more often it feels like they choose me. Though it sounds philosophical, its no exaggeration when it comes to the two books that I am about to share in this article. Both found their way into my hands at just the right moment, offering reflections on motherhood that were as timely as they were touching. The School For Good Mothers and Sandwich are both poignant narratives told through the voice of mothers; sharing deeply their personal journey through motherhood interwoven with love, guilt, resilience and strength to hold it together. The School For Good Mothers I often jokingly say that "How lovely it would be if motherhood comes with a guide book!" - better if there is a school that teaches us how to be good mothers! By looks of the title "The School For Good Mothers" seems to align with my thoughts, but it isn't really. Though this is a fictional story authored by Jessamine Chan, every mother could relate, especia...

No Crack Modak Recipe Without A Mould

Ganesh Chaturthi has always been one of my favorite festivals. Though I may not be able to recreate the same pomp and fervor as in India, I try to keep the spirit alive in every way I can. For me, the festival is never complete without offering The Divine modaks (steamed sweet dumplings), Lord Ganesha’s most beloved treat. Across India, modaks take many forms - some are steamed with sweet fillings, some are fried, and a few even made savory. In my home, we make kudumulu , a simple sweet version without stuffing that tastes heavenly on its own. Growing up in Chennai, our neighbors often shared their kolukattai - they are  soft, smooth, and just melt in our mouths. Over the years, I’ve tried making these festive modaks myself, and trust me, it wasn’t always easy - cracked shells, tough dough, and the constant worry of shaping them without a mould. But with time and a few simple tricks, I’ve learned how to make soft, smooth, no-crack modaks completely by hand. The best part? You don’t...
