Now, let's dive into the books that are going to win those tiny hearts and spark their imagination this holiday.

1. How Many Sleeps Till Christmas: This heartwarming kid's book is written Mark Sperring and Sebastien Braun. It is the story of Little Pip and Daddy bear. Little pip is very excited and eager to celebrate Christmas and asks his father every morning whether it is the Christmas Day. Daddy bear on the other hand, very patiently tries to explain the little one how many sleeps are still left for Christmas. As the days pass, the father-son duo countdown together, preparing for the festival by setting up the tree, making greeting cards and engaging in many more fun festive activities. This book not only teaches patience, but also emphasizes the importance of family traditions and togetherness during the holiday season.

2. The Bad Kitty Searching For Santa: In this book written by Nick Bruel, Bad Kitty takes matter into her paws and writes a letter to Santa. She not only writes the letter, but also decides to hand deliver it to him. But her journey to meet Santa doesn't go as expected and she encounters many hurdles and comical mishaps. Will Bad Kitty deliver the letter to Santa? This book is full of humour and also delivers a touching message about giving and the joy of festive season, making it a perfect addition to the Christmas story collection.

3. The Lost Christmas: Grandpa wants to decorate the Christmas tree but he couldn't find any of the ornaments. His grandkids help him find the missing items and set up the Christmas tree. This seek and find book authored by B.B.Cronin offers plenty of fun to readers in tracing out the missing ornaments. Beyond the fun of tracking down, the story conveys the true meaning of family and Christmas spirit.

4. Llama Llama Secret Santa Surprise: Llama Llama and his friends play Secret Santa at school and is excited to exchange gifts with his friends. But he quickly discovers that choosing the right gift could be a challenge. Anna Dewdney through her thoughtful storytelling has beautifully captured the joy of giving. The story encourages the young minds to appreciate the spirit of kindness and generosity. You can also watch this delightful story on Netflix.

5. Merry Christmas, Gus: This heartwarming book written by Chris Chatterton is my personal favourite. This is the story of Gus, who doesn't like Christmas. He see the carols, decoration and everything about Christmas as just unwanted noise and chaos. But this behaviour leaves his friend, a sweet, enthusiastic puppy disheartened. As the story unfolds, Gus realizes that the true essence of Christmas lies in spreading joy and making our loved ones happy. By the end, Gus embraces the holiday spirit and celebrates Christmas with his friend. This book is a wonderful reminder of the importance of love, friendship and simple joy of togetherness.

Wish you and your family a Merry Christmas. May your holiday season be filled with stories that bring warmth to your heart and happiness to your home!!

Review: Anex Monkey Smart Watch

Hello Readers,  Welcome back. While browsing through a weekly flyer by Canadian Tire, my eyes got hold of a smart watch, primarily for its name - Monkey Smart Watch. It's original price was $89.99. On account of Father's Day, the price was slashed 70% and offered for just $24.99 (from June 9th to June 16th).  As it was listed on Canadian Tire website, I thought the product should be genuine and googled to know more about the product. But there weren't sufficient reviews online. So I decided to try it myself and booked it online. This smart watch was launched in the last quarter of 2021 as Anex Monkey Smart Watch. Last year, it had been sold for just $19.99 as part of Black Friday deal. Even after 5 days of waiting, Canadian Tire didn't process my order. On the other hand, the stock was vanishing real quick and only 80 watches were available in our near by store. When checked with their customer service executive, I was told to cancel my online order or wait until they p...

Recipe: Idiyappam | Sevai | String Hoppers

Idiyappam, is a well known break fast item in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Sri Lanka. It is also known as sevai or string hoppers (in English) and is primarily made out of rice floor. Like idli, idiyappam is made through steaming using no oil, making it very easily digestible and light on stomach.  When I think about idiyappam, I remember 2 instances from my childhood. One of my friend's mom, used to feed her 2 year old with different colourful sevais for evening snack - white, yellow, red along with a liquid version of it too, almost 3-4 times in a week. Later I learnt from her elder daughter (my friend) that they are coconut sevai (sweet version), lemon sevai, tomato sevai and rasam sevai. Though born and brought up in Chennai, we aren't much into idiyappams.  I don't remember eating them until I crossed 10 years. Whenever we visit a doctor with fever, our doctor used to give a list of food items - kanji, bread, idli, idiyappam and rasam rice, which I was usually averse to even...

Why I Write - Q&A with Manu

I keep getting direct and indirect questions on Why I Write? There won't be a better occasion than this to address this Q and other frequently asked Qs. It's been exactly 2 years since I started this website -  Manu's Medley  and apparently this is my 100th blog post.  So Why I Write?  I can give a fancier reply stating "I chose to follow my passion". But I won't, as it isn't true. After being in the IT industry for more than a decade, working tirelessly all through the weeks, months and years, I moved to Canada carrying my little one, when the whole world was witnessing one of the deadliest diseases COVID. It was at the same time, I had to take a career break due to few compelling personal reasons and decided to be a full time mom.  It's a new place and a new role, with almost zero support, unlike the support system at India. To top it, the lockdowns and restrictions were never ending. The three of us spent months together within our apartment and my ...

Recipe: Kesar Kulfi (Summer Special Dessert)

Read at your own risk. This post may stir up childhood memories and serious dessert cravings!!😜 Do you remember the bells ringing close to midnight? Most of the 80s and 90s kids used to wait to hear those bells without sleeping. I remember the days were my brother used to try all odds to defy sleep, just not to miss them. The moment the shrieking sound is heard at the corner of our street, he used to rush outside and scream out aloud "kulfi uncleeeee!!!", to make sure the kulfiwala doesn't turn away without entering our street. Especially when our cousins visit us during holidays, the entire gang will be awake to treat ourselves to that mouth-watering dessert.  In our city, kulfiwala used to come on a tricycle, with a big earthen pot filled with kulfis. He removes the kulfis from the cone, cut them into pieces and serves them on a leaf. Those days, kulfis will be of only one flavor - elachi (cardamom). The leaf on which it is served added a peculiar aroma and flavor to t...
